Experiencing success in the 1985 Aussie touring car championship with the 635 CSi, the JPS BMW faced fierce competitors the following season from the VK Commodore, Volvo 240T and the Skyline DR30.
BMW now needed some muscle to flex. The M3 missile was born. Driven by Richards and Longhurst, the JPS Team built two angry, 2.3 litre, M3’s to attack the 1987 Australian Touring Car Championship. Despite an epic fight with Seton’s Nissan, the little M3 emerged the victor of the 1987 ATCC championship, with four race wins from the nine rounds. The muscle of the JPS M3 will forever remain a Group A Australian motorsport icon.
